Default Anybody ever build up a v8?

Did a search... maybe i'm not searching for the right things... but...

i've been toying with the idea of bulding up a lexus v8 or even a tundra v8 to swap into my sc3...

I know that finding a way to make a manual transmission work will be a PITA... but lets set that aside for now...

how much power can be had from an all motor lexus v8 or even tundra v8?

i must admit.. this idea came into my head when i saw the discovery channel special on Rod Millen's IS430 build up... they did some minor things to the lexus v8 to pump out about 400hp mated to a supra 6sp Getrag tranny...

to top it all off he was drifting the damn thing around the track at the end of the show.

Building a Lexus V8 is a "one off" experience which can be expressed as expensive $$$$$.

Facts I have confirmed from my build-up

The Tundra crank is a direct drop into the 1uz motor. - there is little to no difference in stroke - both cranks are strong enough to use and well made - to maximize Cubic inches you could add a1/4 inch stroke in the crank, but watch out for block clearance

Best way to increase cubic inches is to increase the steel sleeves and put new pistons in, getting the right person to install the sleeves so they stay put is very important.

Tundra Pistons work on the 1Uz rods they need to be trimed down so they work in the block about 40ths
- net static compression ratio is about 9.6-1 custom piston would be an option to keep up the compression ratio

this combination of new sleeves and Tundra pistons nets 4.9 liters

The cams can have the heal of the cam trimmed to increase net lift and effectively increase air flow through the engine

The heads probably can be worked with to increase flow, I did port matching and very minor clean up

Headders result in increase low end torq and overall power

The over all weakest point to doing something to this motor is the ECU, to do the best you have to replace the whole ECU system with something that is managable so you can make the fuel and timing adjustments needed

a torq convertor is a must for best performance

by the way you can take the screen out of the air box as well as using a drummel tool to round out the air passages for better flow. Air filters do not seem to make that much difference - but opening up the box which holds the air filter makes the biggest difference

Oops.Read too quickly. Well, of course Mr. Meader has some stuff to say about this altstadt was going to do something as well but that project seems in hiatus as of now.

Default What Exactly is on that engine???

I'm sure not up on fuel injection knowledge. If I had just run across a picture like this in a car mag, I would have assumed it was a Lexus V8 with 8 carbs. What exactly does he have going on? Advantages? Disadvantages? How do you filter the air????? Nitro
