Apex'i SAFC vs SAFC-II
Forgive my ignorance if this is an easy question, but what's different with the new II, and should I even care? v. Looking at buying a used SAFC...

From what I've read definitely worth it to go for the SAFC-II
- allows for more much discrete / finer tuning increments of air flow
- knock sensor monitor (some have said this works only so so, I don't have one so can't comment)
- lets you save two settings vs one
- smaller in size
- SAFC-II just sounds cooler

Thanks guys, looks like I'm going to pass on the version one then. I gather that people are running the fuel lean to gain their power from the AFC. Has anyone had knock issues when they do that?

Rich, the main differences are these:
Different styling
12 map points versus 8 on the old one
two settings (ex: I would have the altered fuel curve and the stock fuel curve saved)
And the new one is adjustable at smaller rpm increments
Def. go for the 2nd version. Also, make sure you get the US spec one if buying new as the Jap spec one won't have a valid warranty. I'm not sure of the part # difference (have to call Apex for that) but I know a lot of the ones on ebay are the Jap specs.
Good luck!

you don't just run it lean to gain power, cuz the car could be running too lean in it's current state at certain rpms.... you basicly via O2 sensor, tune it to where the air / fuel ration is aprox 14:1,... best condition for combustion w/o damaging the motor. Most of your gains will be in the driveable range of rpms, thus your peak hp may not go up by much, but your rpm based hp will possibly significantly increase, as well as torque.
