Hi there,
I have been reading the factory spec sheets on the SC400. It appears when the car was first released it came standard with approx 260 HP, but then around 1995 there's an indication the HP jumped to 290. I don't see any immediate changes in the motor, so what tuning took place for these gains? Anyone that may know, I would truly appreciate your guidance to find the missing HP on my ’92 SC400.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The engine is the same 4.0 liter, they just massaged it some for the 10 extra horses
The 290HP version added VVTi (when the GS 400 came out) and had a 5-speed auto

The 10hp increase in '96 probably comes from ecu tweaking. The 30hp in '98 comes from a redesigned head featuring variable-valve timing.......and the more powerful tail lights

Thanks Lex400sc
Has anyone explored these upgrades (if available) and do they know the costs associated.
Without going supercharged/turbo'd, it seems there is only a limited amount I can do to my v8 (beyond what I have already done) to up the HP in a cost effective way.
I will let you know that I did a tranny flush with filter and a Redline diff change, this recovered a few HP that was lost over the years. Shifting is like butter.............
