THis is how much I cut from my auto.

You can see where the auto shifter hole is (all the way torwards the back of the car). I had to cut it this much just to clear the getrag.

Hope this helps.

Default 4 detuned

When doing the conversion what parts from the 5-speed are similar/can be interchanged with the 6-speed Getrag?? What new partsw must be replaced? Detuned, did you have to change the sub-tunnel as well? As in the Supra does the manual sit higher than the auto in the SC as well; hence the sub-tunnel work? It's almost impossible to find 5-speed parts used; especially the interior modifications; where can I find this stuff for cheap? Since there are alot more N/A Supra parts around; are there any for the manual conversion that are interchangable?

the only different mod that I had to do between the 5 speed and the 6 speed, was cut that hole a little larger, since the getrags (a-arm) that holds the shifter, sits a little higher. I made my own plate to cover it up, as shown in this pic. (it's not sitting straight in this picture though). everything else is the same. You will need the 6 speed shifter fork and slave. other than that, there isn't much difference.

You can get the parts brand new from lexus for cheap. IIRC, I payed $42 for the brake pedal and $32 for the clutch pedal. And got the other parts at cost as well.

So instead of getting the 5-speed sub-tunnel, you modified the auto one? Ok I am planning to get a W58 soon with all the parts for real cheap:
thats:
RPS stage 3 clutch (blue, 6 puck)
Fidanza rebuildable aluminum flywheel
slave cylinder
tranny
shifter
perch
tranny rear mount

Since the W58 are abundant in the N/A Supra world; I think its cheaper to convert to the 5-speed and upgrade to the 6-speed later on. So I'm assuming you've been using everything from the 5-speed; except for the V160 transmission, driveshaft, shifter assembly, rear-end, slave cylinder. Is the auto driveshaft compatible with the W58??? Thanks in advance man; I think we should sticky this damn thing!

DETUNED; you didn't have to do any pounding on the sides of the auto subtunnel when you threw in the 6-speed right? I know you cut the hole a little longer, but was that all you did for it to fit?

not to sure about that assumption that it will be cheaper to convert later. most likely you'll end up paying more in the long run because there are a few differences between the getrag and the W58. plus, the getrag isn't cheap by itself

Can you please respond to me I want to do the same with my 1996 SC 300 but many mechanics here say it's not worth it; I think they don't know how and I feel if I can think it; it must be possible. Is this very expensive?

West1815 -welcome to clublexus .

This is a 15 year old thread so the members on this thread might not respond.

At this point in time , it is indeed a very expensive exercise to go into a 6 speed Getrag swap. Just the Getrag 6 speed at second hand condition will be in the vicinity of $6k IF EVER you find one. Then you need the drive shaft , the right differential. Depending on power a very expensive clutch and pressure plate. The 6 speed axles and some other small things. Assuming you are onlly getting stock clutch and pressure plate, You will be at $12k at least without labor. Add a twin or triple clutch , you will be hovering at +$15k

Indeed it is a very expensive auto to 6 speed conversion project . Do some more readings and you will find that there are some other cheaper options.

Good Luck

get a CD009, much newer 6 speed that handles quite a bit of power as well and only costs $300-$500.

cost of trans only, adapters, custom driveshaft and flywheel and you're at $2,400 already.

source: i've done it.
