Just throwing this out there. The A.C. compressor and condensor coil can be removed at no cost. Which also improves air flow to the radiator.

And drops a large amount of weight from the front end, but also fits squarely into the category of compromising creature comforts.

Agree, I'm not willing to ditch AC.

Speaking of sketchy reported weights, has anyone put their trunk top carpet on the scale? I never had mine, and I'm pretty skeptical of the alleged 6.5 lb weight. I just weighed a full interior carpet at ~17.5 lbs (using a zeroed larger platform to balance it on the scale; always tougher to get a solid reading that way), and I have a hard time believing it's only 11 lbs heavier than the trunk carpet.

Ditching the A.C. is not for everyone, makes it more of a spring and fall hotrod.

i have not weighed it, but mine is gone because i had no need for it.

FYI I contacted Advan, and they told me their hood weighs in at 28lbs. For racing only applications they can do a skin only that would be closer tp 5lbs. Id be happy with 28 but im going to see if they have any other options that could get it closer to 20-25. If not, a may just go with their standard one if its truly 28lbs.

Solid find, if accurate. For some reason, that never showed up in my eBay or web searches until searching for it now by brand name. Must be a goofy combination of the make/model keyword order. Their price is a bit lower than the 30+ lb competition, and US Made sounds promising.

I've read a lot of reviews about their stuff from other forums. Everyone has very positive things to say regarding overall mold quality, fitment, etc. The one thing I do here mentioned though is that their parts do sometimes leave larger gaps. I think I'm OK with that, as long as the part is straight not warped, the bolt holes all line up correctly, etc.

Post 28 in this link is kind of an example of what I'm trying to say.

That's some brutal panel gap. Perhaps a strategic decision to make fitment easier on a lower priced product? If your measurements are off at all, more gap will soak up the slop much easier than factory gap.

They got back to me and said:

"Sure, with 20 lbs there will be underneath skeleton as long as you going to use hood pins so just let me know when you ready."

I asked again just to be sure I understood. But from what I understand they can do a 20lb version, would have the skeleton underneath (which I think that means the webbing/bracing on the bottom side). If so, I think I found the hood I'm going to be getting. I will be running hood pins for sure. Not sure if I'll still run the stock hood latch though or not.

Just heard back again.

"yes you will still have everything as OEM and we just use thinner material to reduce the weight that you want however we might cut out some of the bottom skeleton."

Have to say these guys have excellent communication, and kind of cool that you can customize your order to help you get exactly what you want. Will be placing an order with them this winter at some point.

Good info on the Advan hoods, Halon. The website reads like they're ordering CF panels from the manufacturer, which would fit with being able to build it to whatever thickness/weight you desire, but wouldn't everything have to be molded ahead of time to the specific shape? Do they have a variable thickness mold or something? I can't imagine they'd be doing each piece custom at those prices.

keep us posted Halon, getting ready of the heavy hood is on my list too... already moved battery to the trunk and downsized it so that is one big weight off the nose of the car.
