It could pass smog but not visual.. You could have a fake egr in there I guess...

for sure the car will not pass smog and no it is not legal to have that motor. However, engine legality is subjective

No egr = no visual pass....unless...
Also, the NOx readings will be high if you have no EGR and CA emissions are very strict. The guy that bought my old NA supra tried to smog it with the EGR blocked off and it failed so miserably it was labeled a gross polluter.
I believe no egr means that there are a few provisions missing. I have a jdm NA TB in my garage...on the top where the three hoses come off for the USDM versions for the egr actuator, there are no pipes to connect the hose to. I would assume the EGR system for the 1jz would be similar to the 2jz in having the provisions absent. Adding an EGR system would require them to be tapped. Also, if the provisions are there, you would probably also have to tap the block and intake manifold. It will be VERY hard and expensive to pass...legally that is......

if it looks stock, its stock. Im sure 99% of cops wouldnt know what to look for. Just say, its all stock. All i have is this intake, really. As long as youre on stock turbos and dont polish anything youre fine.

Having a friend in the smog business is great.

Having a friend that has a test only smog is even better.

LedZepig

You should probably edit or delete your post number 7. Its bad for the forums to have comments like that in threads. Probably going to hear from Mods on it.

Yeah, the 1j is is not and never will be legal in CA.
