Default Cats?

Bad egg smell is also an indication of running rich... You could have already killed your cats... If this is the case you can try taping on the cat and checking for any rattleing sounds... If present then your cats are surely dead, I would just get an aftermarket cat if your car is pre-96 but check you timing and a/f ratio before putting in the new cat... Good luck buddy.... Bryan

Hrm, what do you mean by rattling. I hear a rattling noise when I gas the car sometimes. Tape on the cat? My car does have a really strong exhaust smell. I don't mind taking out the cat, it's just the car smells so bad after you do something like that. I feel sorry for the people driving behind me.

Default Rattle?

Umm no, not tape on your cat , Tap on it... Get the plastic end of a screw driver or something similar and tap on it... If you do hear rattling then the insides of your cat have melted and broken up in peices... Tapping on its the quickest way to cheek but removing and inspecting is the best way. If it smells as bad as you say I'd say your car is running extremly rich, Any problems when driving? Have you checked your air filter lately? If its very dirty it will cause you to run slightly rich because your not getting enough O2 to the engine for combustion. It would be a waste if you just replace the cat and did not fix the cause of the cat to fail in the first place... well hope this helps buddy... Bryan

Hrm.. i'll have it checked out. Come to think of it, i haven't cleaned my jim wolf tech air filter in an year lol. It's one of those cone filters. My exhaust always had a strong smell though, and i heard those filters run better when they are dirty... Maybe it's a bit too dirty haha. If my cat is gone, there's no way i'm buying another one. I will run catless and take my chances. The only thing that i hate about running catless is that it stinks so bad. My friend's cars all run catless exhaust (supra,mr2,sti) and it gives me a crazy headache just following their car. Thanks a lot for the help. I'll have my mechanic check it out tom when i get my coilovers in.
