my swap! need serious help
ok im having some problems. from what im hearing now from a mechanic at the shop im going through is that since my sc is and obd2 (ive got a 97) not only am i going to need an obd2 engine but im going to have problems with my tach and other wiring. he told me i might as well get an older sc300 then do the swap. he told me to contact toyomoto since they have done the swap on an obd2 sc before and see what all is involved. problem is they never answer the fone. my question is has any one done a jdm swap on an 96 and up sc? did you have this kind of problem??? or do you think this guy is a f&%*ing retard and i should just drive to miami and get toyomoto to do it for me since no one else seems to know what they are doing here.
thanks for all the help and dealing with my frustration ......

Hank,
I am sorry that I do not know for sure, but I can understand what your mechanic is saying. The wiring will be different, but can u not just replace the ECU with one from an OBD 1? Then re-wire in an OBD-1 diagnostic box? I don't know, maybe this is completely wrong. Good luck though
Peace and good luck man,
Jonny

jonny,
thats exactly what i thought. the engine i have has the obd1 ecu and everything, maybe my mechanic and I just arent communicating that well. but what i think he was trying to tell me is that he does not have the skills to wire it and would have to send it off somewhere costing me more $$$$$ . ive got everything i need for the engine to go in now, i ended up getting a stock intercooler and piping off a supra. i just want the engine in soon. but if all else fails ive got a friend who will buy the engine off me for the same amount i paid for it . but i really dont want it to come to that
thanks for the help open to more suggestions

Hank,
I'd suggest going to the region section of CL and putting a post in the section for Florida asking if anyone knows any good places you could contact.
It seems that this should be a pretty common problem doing a JDM swap - I think your mechanic just doesn't have the know-how for this particular task.
Good luck man,
Jonny

another option
ok i guess another option im considering is keeping the engine i have and getting a boost logic NA-T kit and a boost logic transmission (my stock one is about to go) but my engine has almost 200,000 miles on it what problems will i run into? what else will i have to replace? will it be driveable for atleast a little while before i have to rebuild the engine? is this even worth considering?
need suggestions and wisdom
thanks much

Hank,
Rebuilding the engine is a LOT of work. Pulling it out alone is a real pain. Remember that u end up pulling out the drivetrain, exhaust system, tranny all at the same time. it is a real pain. Even being a Toyota engine, I would not put any money into something that has 200k on it.
Good luck,
Jonny

i am very weary of that but id like to know some of the problems that would happen if i turbo'd my engine assuming that i got everything checked out and had no problems and was running strong what would be the first things to go due to the boost.
a friend of my dads said he would rebuild my engine for around 3000 or 3500 is this a good deal?
no one else has anything to say???
i appreciate your help jonny

I beleive your 200k engine will hold up ok if you just change to a thicker head gasket and take care of other maintanence. I'm thinking about turboing my 185k engine.

thats what i was starting to think about how hard would it be to find a decently low mileage 2jzge with tranny??
also what do you guys think about this turbo kit http://store.mid-westsupra.com/tukitfor93na.html
does that look good for the price??
thanks,
