Does someone have more info on this. The 98+ SC300 uses the same transmission as the 92-97 SC400 but with a gated shifter. So the swap has to be possible, if someone can shed some more light on this that would be awesome.

if i had gotten an older SC, i would do the supra shifter conversion, didn't look too hard to do, and a 1/2 inch adapter was all that was needed if i remember correctly!

The 98+ SC3's have the same old crappy A340e as the early models. It is now controlled electronically. The line pressure is controlled by a solinoid instead of a cable connected to the throttle body. Many call this a kick-down cable, but it controls the line pressure. The kick-down switch is located under the gas pedal.
This swap is possible

Gated shifter conversion.
Hi guys,
Don here from New Zealand . After a LOT of trolling through Japanese Soarer club web pages, I found this guy who owns a 92 Soarer, and converted it to the gated type out of the later LS400 or Celsior as it's known in Japan.
I'll post up the link. It's a sorta pictorial tutorial with Japanese text , but if you use IE6 and take advantage of the "Translate to English" button it will help (Sorta!).
http://www.geocities.jp/dlug2005/page002.html
Once you've scrolled to the bottom of the 1st page, click the RH of the 3 Japanese symbols (At bottom of page), which will take you to the next page of pics.
And so on, until you reach the end.
Hope this may be of some help to you guys.

I'd love to do this conversion into my 97 Soarer when money permits
Ahhh... so the 98~ SC3 uses the same tranny as the later model Soarers too (A340E), it seems to be electronically controlled as Gadget has mentioned (and that's about as far as I can find on this damn transmission) so hopefully the electrical connections should be the same (fingers crossed!).
