Wow!!!!!

I know it's been said a billion times, but if you haven't done this yet, DO IT! I bought mine through toyotapartscheap.com using the part #'s listed on here. They were like $12 total plus shipping, totally worth it.

First I took the shifter out to replace the white cap over the bearing. The one on there was a tiny bit chewed up but for the most part looked like it was in pretty good shape. I replaced it anyway.

The shifter seat...oh boy. The two-piece seat had separated into two...the black layer on the bottom was fine but the green top layer was broken into about 10 different chunks. I needlenosed it all out and installed the new one, threw it all back together, and threw my new TRD shift **** on there.

Took it out for a spin and it was amazing! It was so notchy and solid that at first I freaked out because I thought the transmission had started grinding or something. It feels great, was cheap, and easy.

Going to purchase the parts today, i'll keep everyone updated. My trans feels as if im shifting a rod through nails. Crazy notchy. Especially when its cold.

EDIT: the toyo dealer had to order the parts, so ill be getting them in the next few days.

They actually make short throw shifters for the 95-97 W58's.

This mod is seriously the best bang for the buck on these cars, ever! I'm *still* getting used to it, my Integra has a ridiculously short throw with all Energy Suspension bushings so it's really stiff, but the Lexus now is stiff and factory feeling. When I'm driving "spiritedly" I still hit the gate between 1st and 3rd sometimes because I'm used to it being so sloppy I can just throw it up there and have it end up in 3rd.

Before and after:

Grease used:

Mobil 1 Synthetic

Makes life easier:

This took me about 1-2 hours cause i took my time, and those bolts were a pain to get back in. Trashed the middle boot, and kept the bottom one and the top one. This was my first mechanic-like job, so i feel proud. Shifting is still a tad bit notchy (didnt warm up trans yet) but the stick is SO tight and not loose and wobbly like before.

btw, i think someone on supramania made a shortshifter for our transmissions... he made it for his mk3 supra... which i believe has the same transmission.

for you guys who still need to do this i recommend going to the toyota of dalles website and printing out the price quote for the parts.

I was able to get 33505 for sell 8.33 (list is 11.55) and 33548 for 3.55 (list is 4.92) Of course it helps if the dealerships part department likes you and you have socal skills. Talking to the parts manager and asking to buy the parts "for a reasonable price" is a good way to get reduced prices.
