I can't help you with specifics since I don't have a sc300, but you may want to talk to the is300 guys. In particular, www.is300.net. supraforums might have some handy info for you too.

Besides lex luthor, I can't recall anyyone else on this forum putting a turbo on a late model sc300.

I hope Cort doesn't mind, but here are a few pics he sent me of the aftermath of turboing a VVT-i engine:

Snapped Rod

The Piston has left the building

Rod made itself an exit hole as well

The VVT-i main rods are absolutely pathetic comared to the pre-VVT-i monsters.
While the pre-98 rods could support 800 rwhp, the VVT-i rods couldn't hold 350.
Your best bet is to do a swap.

You definitely need to keep the boost level/HP low with the VVTi engine.

The good thing is that the non-vvti rods fit right in (if you don't mind tearing the engine apart).

Good to see you over here Dave

Yeah, the VVTi rods are weak -- Jon C. (Lex Luthor) ended up going with a 2JZ-GTE Shortblock (bottom end) to solve his problems.

Ethan Banks (Ebanks) bought Jon's car, and had a post not too long ago in the NA section on SF to the same effect.

I'd save yourself a the agrivation and get the GTE bottom end... then you get oil squirters too (for what they're worth )

On the flipside, Dave certainly knows that the GE bottom end is enough for nines, so take your pick!

If it was my car, I'd go with a GTE bottom end and at the same time, upgrade my headgasket to something thicker (3 MM maybe?).

Save yourself the headaches and just swap in a TT shortblock... Don't mess around with the VVT-i bottom end.

I don't think Jon will reply to your PM because since he sold the car he is rarely, if ever, on this forum.

Good luck with your project!

I'm not sure... So I've been reading on the IS300 boards and it seems they are making great numbers.. of course there are the few that blew there motors but it doesnt state if it was motor or tuning.. it just seems like people are trying to use basic piggyback devices such as AFC and AFR to control fuel on these OBD2 cars, when the stock ECU just reacts and adjusts accordingly to get back to 14:1 air/fuel. Running these cars too lean is the big problem.

What do you guys think of that?? maybe I should have a poll of how long my motor will last
