Default 1JZ-GTE swap almost done

Well, I must admit . This is the easiest swap I have ever done. In 1997 I was the first to do sr20det swap on the East coast and found out the hard way what to do and NOT to do. Well with this swap no body mods are required to install engine and stock intercooler piping. All the holes are there and bolt holes tapped. I started removing stocker at 5pm and finished completely installing 1jz 5 hrs later. I didnt even have to remove hood !!!
After I was done I must have looked over the car 5 times thinking this was too easy I must have missed something. but it was all right. from the heater lines to the power steering nothing was an issue. Im surprised more of these aren't on the streets for the simplisity and cost. I got this engine complete from www.jhotexports.com for $1200 . The wiring harness does need to be made 18" longer to allow the ecu to rest in its place. I have not gotten to the wiring inside yet but the outside plugs color match and plug right in. as soon as I get the throttle cable and ecu Ill let you guys know how it goes.

Sounds like your good at motor swaps.. did you have any help? I'm guessing the 2jz swap would be about as easy? I just got done on a 3s-gte swap in an mr2 and that was somewhat difficult..

Default 1jz swap

no, I didnt it alone. I would think the 1jz is harder because of wiring from what I have been told. but you know how it is. some people make things more than they really are to discourage others I guess. I remember same was said about sr swap. and in ended up being just 1 wire(coil packs) to ad power to.

How's that? When the JDM harness plugs right into the dash connectors and chassis-side harness without modification? How does it get any easier than that?

The harnesses and ECU are completely different.

I don't know if you misread above, but I was referring to the 2jz swap.

the 1jz harness plugs right into the sc300 cabin harness? Would this mean that all you would have to do to wire it up is lengthen the harness, transfer the sc knock sensor and plug it all in? I know there HAS to be something missing. Would the speedo/tach work?

ps: In regards to your sig: I have some mufflers but no piping. PM me if you want them.

very nice work! Thats great to hear that the swap is not that challenging. I've done a couple sr20 swaps in the past 2 years including my own s13. I can't wait to do the 1jz

I'd love to see some pics of your car with those wheels and jic kit in your sig!
