Tranny Options
I have looked around for tranny options for my auto sc300. I have seen all of the toyota options but what about the american th400's and the turbo 350's. Id like to stay auto and id like to not worry about my tranny at high hp. My turbo kit is almost done and i am very worried about my trans. Id hate to pull out of my garage and BOOM! At 12 psi of boost. BTW im shooting for the 700 hp area.

A Boost Logic Trans will hold 9 second passes... I have seen someone use the TH400 though. I just forgot who it was.. I was trying to get more info on it, but he never replied to my pm.

I am currently building SW another SC3 with a built stock auto tranny with torque converter. It looks like we are going to be using a BL67. We will be posting times and numbers in the near future. I have no reservations about the stock tranny. I quess we'll be proving people wrong once again. Zohair @ Boostlogic has a BL400 in his sc300, just seems a little non-luxury for a manually shifted 3 speed in our sports couple. Another to thing to consider, his top speed is like 120 @ 7500 and if your using a smaller turbo setup that 400 eats alot of power. Your looking at close to 5K for a complete kit..

The 400 in my GTO shifts on it's own just fine.
It seems to me that a TH400 is overkill. Why not a TH 350? I've seen 400's sap over 20% of an engines power, very heavy internals. 350's are alot lighter internally and can be built pretty damn strong. I have no experience with them in retrofit situations but just a thought.

Is the GTO turbo, because most 400's required vacuum to assist with the shifting.

th400s are great if u wanna be pure drag and top out at 120 mph ... they will take as much abuse as u can give them and are decently daily driveable (it will drive like an old cadillac) but this swap is costly and i want some top speed. i have the same problem as you. i have opted to buy a supra tt auto and have it built by boost logic then all you will need is a custom drive shaft a small amount of wiring and your done. in my mind much easier and cheaper as for reliability i trust kean. obviously it wont be as reliable as a th400 or a turbo 350 but im sure will get the job done and besides i could afford to do the tt auto swap twice for the price of just the th400 conversion kit
