I don't know what kind of engine you're talking about here gserep1, but the 2JZ-GE in the SC300 (Non-VVTI) are non-interference.

To bad I wont be able to start till the weekend of 31st or so due to scheduling reasons, lately i been driving the car very sparingly (work and back only, i try to keep my weekend outings by riding in my roomates wrx..) So I hope belt lasts me till then. Today Im going to finish what I had planned for this car and replace my radiator and experiment running with water and water wetter in sunny az, which worked wonders when my 240sx was running (better response it removed all overheating issues which I dont have with the sc300 etc etc, only drawback is that it took forever to warm up.)

Is there a specific sized pulley I need for the job? Instructions I obtained give me a part number for the pulley extractor but that looks to be a lexus specific tool I wonder to what thad translate too for a general pulley extractor?

go to autozone and ask for a crackshaft puller. its 2 screws that go into the crankshaft pully and one big **** that you screw into the middle and as it goes it it pulls the pulley out. its also known as a harmonic balancer puller.

were doing the timing belt as we speak in the instructions my brother sent me vie email..
It is interesting to note that this engine for 1992-1997 SC300 is classified as an INTERFERENCE Engine!!!!
Wow I guess we were wrong about that one! Ill start a new thread about it later...

Check for engine Damage:
Caution: This engine has been identified as an INTERFERENCE engine in which the possibility of valve to piston damage in the event of timing belt failure is MOST LIKELY to occur.
A compression check of all cylinders should be made before removing cylinder head.

I hope it's not classified like that via the Service Manual. The official Lexus service manual also says our 2JZ-GE engines have oil pan baffles, but DaveH confirmed they don't!

That would explain the continual "debate" about non-interference vs. interference. I know my 93 is non-interference and I didn't read it in a manual to find out. Any manual that states valve damage is "likely to ocurr" when the belt breaks is just bad information. Either it WILL or WILL NOT depending on whice 2JZ you have.
If you have a VVTi it is possible, non-VVTi impossible.
