make sure you're not turning it the wrong way I did that once

If you're going to use a breaker bar like you suggest, then I'd recommend using a 6-point socket and not the commonly used 12 pt socket. I'm sure you know that though.

Good luck

Question

I just couldn't wait . So, I had another go at it after my pain meds wore off. The oil pan bolt WILL NOT BUDGE! . Yes I made sure I was turning it counter clockwise to loosen it. I almost stripped it. I tried WD40 around the bolt with no luck . Anyone else had problems with this bolt? i hope it's not seized .

Can I make a suggestion? Do you have a torch of somekind, of something that can put some heat on it? If so, heat the bolt up, then stick a candle to it, The heat will melt the candle and suck it into the threads

Picked it up from here

Thumbs up

shaman, thanks for your help! I finally got it loose. Here is what happened:

Yesterday: tried loosening with socket wrench and adjustable = no luck
Later Yesterday: tried using WD40 and use same tools above = no luck
Today: used more wd40 and used same tools above = no luck
Later Today: used a LOT of WD40 spray on the bolt and used a socket to put pressure on the bolt both ways (tightening and loosening). However the bolt was not moving. I gave it one last very hard try to loosen it and it worked!

Status: I'm letting it drain. Still haven't decided if I should attempt drilling the pan while I'm on these drousy pain meds hehe.

Red face

Finished drilling oil pan with the 7/8th hole saw. I was expecting to be able to pull that last plate layer out, but instead the entire drill just pushed through. Does this mean there is some circular piece of metal freely in my oil pan now? Is this a concern or did the same thing happened to most of you that just drilled the oil pan and not remove it?

aeight stuck my middle finger really deep and felt something that i pushed forward..probably the plate. So the plate is still in the upper oil pan close to the drilled hole. Now all i need are some REALLY thin tweasers and a tiny lighted video camera that can fit inside the hole so i can see how to grab the metal. any ideas?

Can the lower and upper oil pans be slightly seperated so I can put some plastic between them and pour oil through the upper oil pan's drilled hole to force the metal out onto the plastic, thereby ejecting the metal piece?

Bummer...

Maybe use a rubber mallet to give it a bit of a tap? I'm assuming it has some type of silicone bead to hold it up...

Question

The Saga continues. I still can't pry this damn lower oil pan off . I'm going to try again tomorrow when I have some more energy... Also, I won't be able to tap that lower hole because there is this hard black line blocking it. What is it and how can I safely disconnect it? Thanks again for everyone's help, I'm always learning and appreciate all of your input so much .

hahah that black line gave me a little trouble too. There should be a screw that holds it in place a little. Take it off and you'll be able to move the black piece just enough. I tied a strong wire to the metal piece and around one of the heat shield screws to hold the black piece enough so I could drill.

Lightbulb

Update:

Broke some of the seal on the oil pan thanks to a local lexus shop letting me borrow their SPECIAL TOYOTA OIL PAN cutting tool . Also, drilled a hole through one exhaust bolt and removed it, the other one is stubborn and these titanium drill bits suck so I'm getting some different ones tomorrow. I tried PB Blaster on the bolts with no luck, so drilling through them seems the best way or crilling large enough to break the washer seems best.
