Is it legal to have a Soarer Engine?
Is it legal to have a soarer engine (1jz as most of you know), in my 95 sc400? I know it can obviously be done, but i live in California... strict environmental punks. Is it legal in Cali? Anyone know the site i can look it up on?

it is illegal but you must really know engines to tell the difference. Most inspection mechanics dont know/care as long as it will smog if needed, which it will if i am not mistaken.

Ya, the emissions laws are even stricter in Japan than here. They come with two cats even. very restrictive exaust. It should pass no problem if all the emisssions stuff is hooked up. Just my opinion, not fact though.

** Edit: Sorry my mistake, some did have Toyota on the cam gear cover instead of Yamaha.
You can however cut that out as I have on my engine to show the aftermarket cam gears..
