1st to 2nd shift
i test drove a 96 sc300 with a 5 speed and the first to second shift was kind of bad, after i shifted easy and started to accelorate again the car started jerking back and forth like it was hesitating a lot. what could that be?

it could be a ton of stuff--from the car not being warm yet to you shifting to early.. do you think the trans was acting funny or do you think the engine was the cause of what your saying?

the engine was fine, the trans was shifting perfectly smooth in to other gears but after the 1st to 2nd shift it almost was like the clutch was not grasping it. i dont know any help would be great. i would have bought the car if it was not that, but its still for sale so i dont know should i buy it, it had 115k miles on it 5 speed 1996 for $8995

The synchros on the second gear are known to wear out on these transmissions. Also the jerkiness might have been worn out motor mounts or transmission mount. For a 96 with 115k miles, I'd offer around 7k assuming everything was in pretty good shape. Minor stuff like control arm bushings are expected to be worn out.

The syncros wear out alot in the 5spd i know that in mine when the car is not compleatly warmed up the 1st -2nd can get jerky so you have to go into 2nd really smooth until everything is warmed up. by the way mine has 188k on it.
