Default It WAS just the coolant level

So I put in about one quart (1 Liter) of radiator fluid and lo and behold! I now have heat. I got busy and didn't check the radiator reservoir and it was empty. That was all it took. You guys are the greatest!

Now it's off to the dealer for: Timing belt (50,000 miles on the current one), and Water Pump (138,000 miles on that, orig. equip!). Is this something I should dish out Dealer Dollars for, or can any reasonably good mechanic do this? I'm am not quite that adventurous as to try to do it myself.

Any mechanic you trust can do a water-pump and timing belt job. Its not that its complicated, its so expensive because of the labor involved in everything you have to remove to get to those things. It cost me $1300 at a local mechanic to do it (including water-pump parts). And that was only because I coulnd't get the crankshaft bolt off...otherwise I would have done it myself.

That belt is just getting broken in. If you'd search, you'd read stories of belts lasting hundreds of thousands of miles.
