DAMN that is a clean install. Very nice, you did an excellent job. Nice way of making a ****ty intake for something better.

Clean engine bay too.

Default Update

A heat shield I came up with looks good to me still exploring some other ones, I will make the real one out of sheet metal.

TMaxxTim: it is nosier but not enough to annoy, on the BFI thing I personally wouldn’t know (never had one) but I would hope it comes out better.

Question

because that air inlet coming from the bumper is small, this seems like it could restrict airflow. what does everyone think?

It's the same one that comes in for the stock intake, so it's not TOO bad.
I'd recommend putting the filter in the bumper for true CAI (make sure to use one of those AEM by-pass valves because that area is subject to a lot of water from puddles)

Cheers,
~Alan

That snorkel can go away, and leave a path from the opening that will be plenty large.

Also, the oem airbox had an air horn inside around the opening to the MAF; without something smooth/rounded off in that area, you will create turbulence, and cancel out many of the advantages of your new intake.
Looks cool.

The MAF adapter is almost exactly the size of the opening to the MAF and is polished aluminum so I don’t really see y it would create more turbulence. If the adapter was bigger I can see y that would cause turbulence and y u would need the horn.

Why dont you do a BFI style scoop by pulling down the liner and sealing the holes under the headlight and next to the battery? I think you would get max airflow that way. See BFI2 and BFI3

Default snorkle

Yes, removing the stock snorkle and fabricating a better one makes a fairly significant difference in the air temps coming into the engine.

I am currently digging out my old Lexus files and will try and post pics of the one I fabricated out of fiberglass.

These pics and write ups will be at www.technicalhelp4u.com/lexus

Exclamation Another UPDATE

Some more progress

The box is almost complete I just need to drill the holes to mount it and get some rubber seals to seal it up.

sheet metal size
length: 22 3/4"
widht: 11 1/4"(1" will be folded on the top and the bottom for maounting and seals)

Bend #1: 1 ¼” from left side edge
Bend #2: 6 5/8” from left side edge
Bend #3: 8 1/8” from left side edge
Bend #4: 13 ¼” from left side edge or 9 5/8” from right side edge
Hole: 3 ½” wide starting from 8 3/8” from left edge from the top ~1 ¾ down
Note: the bottom corner between # 2 and 3 was rounded to fit better
(If I find my angle gauge I will try to post the angle of the bends)

PIX

Cardboard template traced out on sheet metal

Close up with the MAF hole cut out

Top 1" bend and the right side bend

second vertical bend( each vertical line represnds a bend, you get the idea)

end product
