Now... come on; it's not that dramatic. I've done it many times. You just slowly let a flat part of your hand skim the surface of the virtual solid shape created by the rotating fan blade. If it's powered and it does not waver a bit as you touch it, you just pull your hand away, but if it slows a bit, you just press harder and you can actually stop the blade. It's really no big thang.

It's tuned perfectly and runs great! Coolant level hasn't changed in 2 weeks and the condenser is clean also the thermostat opens at 180

It does seem to overheat under a load .

I have a mile long hill about 30 min. into my daily trip when it starts to overheat.

It has to be the belt slipping. Not sure what the vibration damper pulley is? Is that the same as the belt tension pulley ( im sure thats not what it's called)

LOL yall are crazy. I can't believe you really suggest people should put their hands on a moving cooling fan. I have always used a rolled up newspaper or magazine to test fan clutches. Less chance of clothes or fingers getting caught and ingested by moving parts.

Once it's good and hot you can do that. It SHOULD spin freely if the car is cold.

The vibration damper = crank pulley; it's the one that drives all the belt driven accessories. The actual pulley ring is attached by some kind of fused rubber to an inner disc that bolts to the crankshaft. This rubber can break down and cause the outer pulley ring to separate inner disc, thereby losing its ability to drive the serpentine belt under heavy loads.

Now, the serpentine belt tensioner could also cause the belt to slip if it is losing it's ability to hold tension, but that is a totally separate piece from the vibration damper (crank pulley) .

And then there is the fan clutch itself. BE VERY CAREFUL testing it, I don't want anyone getting hurt on my account.

What flavor of American muscle have you previously been running?

Wait a minute, I NEVER suggested that anyone do it, I merely said it's not like it's a big fat hairy deal. Kind of like licking your fingertips and pinching out a candle flame . . . big whoop!

EDIT: just reread the thread . . . that was mikeloc24 that suggested it, and it was like 5 1/2 years ago!
