Given that the W-series -is- a truck gearbox, and the R154 is a significant upgrade over that, you're very safe in assuming that it can handle a lot of power. In fact, all of the big power players at www.7mpower.com are using the R154, which is no different than the Soarer version in terms of build quality.

gensoyai... so you're making a tad over 400 to the wheels with the stock twins and just BPU?

and that cost you roughly 3.5k in parts...

3k for 400 is not bad at all... i'm tryin to justify getting the 1jz... whether or not it would be as cost effective

i don't mind have 350 to the wheels if it'll be considerably cheaper than the the cost of your 400 rwhp car

Yep, but I'm not sure why? The reason I say this is because when researching this project (well in advance), everything I read says that the JDM 2JZGTE made less power because of smaller turbos, smaller injectors, smaller cams, etc. I was also told that the USDM harness wouldn't fit the JDM coil packs. So much of this, I'm assuming, was wrong. Well, I am using USDM 550cc injectors, but everything else between the JDM motor/sensors and USDM harness connected perfectly.

My USDM ecu is a SuperChips modifed ECU (boost-cut removed). I'm still running the stock twins and boost-mod giving me on average 17psi. A set of UR cam gears are set at (i +2 e -3) and I'm running a stock Supra side-mount IC.

i've heard the same regarding the JDM 2jzgte... which was why it added to my reasoning for going with a 1jz...

my guess however is that the reason the JDM 2jz isn't "as powerful" as the USDM is the ECU... which in your case you're using a chipped ECU. But either way... the 2jz is starting to sound sweeter...

how's the tranny feel with that much power?

The JDM 2JZ has a different ECU (from what I've heard), plus smaller injectors (440cc as opposed to 550cc) but I think they're the only differences. Is it easy to find 2JZGTE 550cc injectors over there? I'm planning to upgrade my fuel system

The US mk3 Supra was available with only either the 7M-GE (3.0L n/a) or 7M-GTE (3.0L turbo). Both of which haven't really stood the test of time, which depreciated the generation as a whole. Those of us Supra owners in the US who are equipped with the 1JZ-GTE have done so by means of engine swap.

As a note, other Supra engines (which consequently are Lexus SC compabible) are the 1G-GTE, 7M-GTE turbo A, and the far underpowered 1G-GE and 1JZ-GE.

Regardless, if you want a painless engine swap, it's best to use a Soarer 2.5GT-T since all of the associated fan and intercooler/piping will be correct.

A guy named Phil (on this board) made a wiring manual. I used it to do my conversion.
