Default smell gas found where but why

ok i have been getting the smell of gas in my car every once in a while so one day i had just shut of my car and smelled the gas so i popped the hood and sureley enough it was from over by the charchol canister. i could hear it purging from this little hose sticking up. i put my face in it and it i could really smell it, so why does it purge while driving and why doesnt it purge somehwere like out the bottom of the car?

It is from overfilling your gas tank. Once it get's in there it will likely never go away as it becomes trapped, but will be a lot less obvious at different times.

Bend over. It's about $400

I have thought about buying a spare from a junkyard and doing a little surgery with a dremel by popping the top off and doing what needed to be done then perhaps solder welding it back together just to see if I could pull it off.

If you don't have to go through smog, just get rid of it.
