Adding to what R & J posted, there is an LS1 version of the T56 and an LS6 (C5 Z06) version of the T56. The LS6/Z06 version has a shorter first gear. The LS2 engine in the C6 (400/400) is also paired with a T56 in DIY version.

You might wander over to CorvetteForum.com and see what the guys in C5 Tech are putting through their stock T56 boxes.

The C5/C6 version of the T-56 is probably incompatible because it is packaged for mounting in the rear in those applications.

Time to see if the F-body T56 and the Y-body T56 have the same part number. The position of the "R" in the shift pattern is a possible telltale. "R" is forward and to the extreme right in a C5 manual.

Even if - at least one version of the T56 - the C6 version (and the '05-'06 GTO) - is happy at 400+ lbf-ft of torque.

Hey... the GTO is a front-mount. T56, and it's channeling an LS2.

By the way, hey everybody. I bought a '97 SC400 on Friday. My last two cars were a '93 and a '99 Corvette. Both 'Vettes were faster and more high-performance than the SC400 but neither was anywhere close to the SC in solidity and that certain feeling of quality construction and materials, comfort, livability, and actually, uniqueness.

Sorry guys I have been very sick lately! Got a bad case of the flu and passed to my family. Still recovering and also very busy. It seems I am gonna have to put this project on hold for a month or two untill graduation is over. I need my bachelors degree and school just got harder. So summer time will be very feasible to complete this!

That's worth noting about the Vette units; they aren't a candidate for use in our cars, but there are plenty of wrecked Camaros, and Mustangs out there.

I posted this on the other forum this is in on na-t

" I've been doing alot more research for this project. I was looking into staying automatic with either the Th400 or 4L80e. As you know the th400 is only a 3spd and would not be good for my daily driver. So I decided on a 4L80e.
The cost of the transmission that could handle the kind of power I want to throw at it would cost 3k plus the adapter at 250 + the flexplate TC adapter at 820 and a TCI trans controller 650 and finally a TC 800 = $ 5520
I was looking and you can get V160's for around 2500 used or 3600-4200 new. Plus all the hardware you would need to make the manual work if you dont already have a manual trans.
Soooo, that puts me where im at. You can get good Tremecs for much cheaper. You could use a hydro T/O bearing with your stock automatic bellhousing. I am looking into doing a multi clutch assy much like the TRD twin plate or Exedy setup. You could do a LW flywheel and a regular clutch as well.
Then it comes down to finding a trans housing that would allow the shifter to come up thru the stock shifter hole or close to it. Next up is the actuall adapter, I havent looked into it yet but I have a friend that does CNC that would be able to help me out once I draw up the cad file and take measurements for the TO bearing clearances.
No matter what way you go you will need a custom driveline and most likely a new mount of sorts.

Just wanted to let you all know where im at.

James "
