Default Twin Turbo Headers (DIY)

Gang,

Finally got some time and started my quest. I got a set of mild steel uzfe header flange from Australia and got the following parts. In this article i will try to help out members who are interested of making your own twin turbo headers. I have consulted with JBrady on many occasions about two exhaust dynamics and have seen his headers. I basically took his idea and make it a FI header instead of N/A headers.

Anyway, starting with the primary, I used 4 U bends with 1.5" standard 16 gauge mild steel. Each U bend was cut into half and you get 8 90 degree bends.

From there, i tac welded each primary bends and merged them into a 1.75" mild steel secondary. From secondary, i will use a 2" into a 2" V-Band. The reason I am using V-Band is because I want the modular system for maintanence. Here is what i did so far. Remember, I dont have any formal training on welding and I dont have an engineering degree. The two headers took me about 45 minutes each side. I think with proper tools and material, I can finish both complete headers in one day. These are just tac weld and I will take the headers to a local professional welder to complete them with Tig weld. I am using mild steel right now, but i will get them ceramic coat for heat containment.

I am still waiting for more pipes and bends. However, I got little more today. Looks like its coming along pretty well. I think the 2" V-Band will be a while until it gets here. Here is a pictures of the secondary pipe:

However, I will make some minor modifications to slightly reduce the outlet size so i can fit into a expended 2" pipes.

I will update you guys with my process. Remember these headers will be going into a SC400 or in my case it will be a SC470.

Sounds like a fun project your working on. I searched for them years ago for my LS, but never found anything.

By the way, how's that LS running?

David,

All you need to do is upload to the gallery (or some other image source) and link them using the IMG tag and you can put them all in one post.

Method 'b' in this FAQ

you might want to close up those gaps from the runners, the gaps are going to be next to impossible to get good penetration into the base metal on your final welds. also are those tacked welds or are you trying to weld everything on the first pass? im with d1gp as it doesnt look like your manifolds are going to last long under heat cycling. pm me if you want a few pointers on putting it together so it doesnt fall apart, i've done a good amount of manifold builds along with roll cages and custom intercoolers.
