vibration and bobbing in shifter - is it normal?

My 5-speed shifter bobs up and down about half an inch when I drive at highway speeds.

It doesn't seem to effect the transmission's performance nor does it slip out; but I would like to fit a minor problem before it becomes a big one.

Could an engine/transmission mount be going bad?
