Default What does it take to beat an American Muscle Car

I was headed home from dinner and a corvette pulled up and started to rev his engine and wanting to race, while we were in traffic on a two lane road. I would have raced him, if there wasn't any traffic, for the hell of it even though my sc300 has its stock engine. This guy kept reving his engine and I just thought to myself, I need a 1jz or a 2jzgte so I can put guys like this to shame. Can anyone tell me what it will take to beat cars like a corvette? I plan on going with a 1jz, but would like to know how much $$$ I would need to invest to put American Muscle Cars to shame. Any info will help.

Staying away from NOS, don't want to mess up my engine. I think it was a newer vette, not sure. Has anyone tried that CRYO2, is it safe, what are some pros and cons?

Takes a bit as those cars are designed only for one thing-acceleration. I did take several C5's in my supercharged GS400. Without FI I would have been dusted in the straights.

I don't think I wanna go the NA-T route, I think I'll go with a 1JZ. I would like to know what it would take to get a 1JZ SC to compete with a corvette.

The biggest advantage of the american V8 is displacment. You want to compete with that by lowering your own .
I'd reconsider going na-t or 2jz-gte swap

NA-T will always yield more power and torque then a 1JZ.

But cost is another issue.

The only reason I want to go 1jz is because it's a lot cheaper than $4000, at least, for a turbo kit. If money was not an issue, I would be all over the 2jzgte with 6-speed. I can get a 1jz swap for way less than $4000 and still have extra $$$ to spare.

Where do you get a cheap 1jz-gte swap that includes a 6 speed or R154 transmission for CHEAP? is your sc300 auto transmission? You will never beat a ~400rwhp corvette with a 1jz-gte on stock twins. Do it "right" the first time and go single. You will have a much better power band with a small-mid-sized turbo with appropriate exhaust housing. Also, it should not cost you $4,000 to go na-t properly. Many people do it for $3,000 or less. Tell us your car's current specs, including mileage so we can be of more help to you .

I didn't say I could get a 1JZ with a 6-Speed, I said that if $$$ was not an issue I would go with a 2JZGTE with a 6-speed. My car is 1992 SC300 with a 5-speed and it has about 112,000 miles on it. I also know I can't get 400rwhp on a stock 1jz and that is why I am asking what does it take to get that type of power and what would be the estimated cost after the swap. I was also thinking of maybe a possible TT head swap.

Depends, it doen't take much for a SC to beat a 6 cylinder mustang. Then again it takes alot to pull on a new C6-R. My suggestion would be to buy a sports car if you really want to go super fast. NA-T off of a 2JZ-GTE would get you your must powerfull setup I would think. Nitrous if you don't have the money these engines are pretty solid.

Your not going to beat a new Vette ever in your car not even with nos...(nos will not mess up your engine either unless you run too much of a shot)...I can come very close to these Vette's but these new Vettes are 400hp light in weight, grip the ground like crazy, and are geared to perfection....To beat the Vette with an SC300 you will need that following-

The V160 Supra Tranny swap....
Forgies and a serious Turbo setup that will deal you out around 550-600hp
Also fat rear tires, lowered suspension, Trd LSD, and lastly Coilover suspension..

Do all that and you can probably take it if you car is tuned and running perfect....

Those new Vettes are no joke... I know because I have raced two and lost both races.....but one race was close when my nos bottle was really juiced up......Off the line is where I came up short, those cars bolt off the line, loads of traction...
