Harmonic balancer
So I had this squealing in my engine, figured it was the belt and when I took it to the shop they said my tensor was bad... they replaced the tensor and then found out that the harmonic balancer is bad. My question... If the balancer was bad before I took it to the shop wouldn't that have caused my engine to shake?? They said the belt was not even on the pully but on the rubber, does that make sense to anyone?

Uuum yes?
the harmonic balancers do fail. the outer ribbed section (where the belt rides) seperates
from the rubber/ metal center section. the ribbed section can walk around & cut off ribs
on the belt. the shop probably didnt notice till they got into it or when finished & the belt
still squeaked. i had 1 from another shop (you know who you are ) , the ribbed section
was gone & the belt was riding only on the center section. the only complaint was the
power steering tightened up on parking manuvers.
So yes it does make sense.
