Transmission Problems?
Has anyone with an SC400 had any significant transmission problems? This especially goes for anyone that has done some major (or minor) engine work. How well do these transmissions handle a bump in power like a SC, exhaust or intake? Thanks!

They fall apart without being upgraded.
300-350rwhp is about the limit for the automatic.
Many shops like SP and Level 10 do work on this tranny to make it hold up to 700+rwhp.
At stock levels, about all that happens is the torque convertor goes bad. Symptoms are torque flutter when it locks up in OD, typically in the 40-50mph range.

SC300T,
I know I posted this in a different thread, but I figured I have a better chance to be able to pick your brain if i do it here as well. So here it goes,
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If its an automatic, drive under light throttle up to 45mph... There should be a seamless shift schedule, shouldn't shutter when shifting gears.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If I can feel a pronounced shifting, not too harsh but pronounced, does this means I'm having a transmission problem. Also, when I drive spiritually, if you get my idea, the shifting feels more seamless, and then right after that while driving "normally" it is also seamless. When cold, for example in the morning, the shifting is more pronounced again. What can this mean?
Thanks,
Chris K.

SC300T,
Also, my impression was that SC400 transmission is stronger than SC300 auto. I thought, that SC400 should easily handle 400hp. If I'm not mistaken, I read somewhere that Supra TT Auto guys replace their trans with SC400's because they can handle more beating. What do you think?
Thanks,
Chris K.
