Transmission shifts directly from 1st to overdrive??
Anyone ever heard of this? It will rev to about 3k when I'm just cruising and then shift to overdrive and not shift again. Occasionally it will go through all the gears, however, most the time it will not. Also, when I stomp on it, it doesn't downshift, it just reaches the TC stall point and accellerates slower than molasses in January. Any ideas?

Your profile doesnt specify wether you have an SC300 or 400. But it says you have a 95.
If its an obd1 you can check it yourself with a paperclip. There was/is a good link on how to do that, but it doesnt seems to be working.
There is a circular terminal that flips open ,located under the steering wheel just to the left .
1. Using the paperclip, You will connect port E1 and TE1.
2. turn the ignition switch on but dont start the engine. ( The OD needs to be pressed to on to check it)
3. Then you will count the flashes. to get the code. wich would be 2 digits.
with a 1.5 second break in between. (example code 63 would be 6 blinks in a row...then a 1.5 second pause ...then 3 blinks.)
4. If there is more than 1 code , there will be a 4.5 second pause before it will show the 2nd code and so on. And it will be read the same way as the first.
5. Once you have read them you can disconnect the EFI fuse for a couple minutes or the battery for a 1/2 hour to reset the ecu.
If you have an SC300 and post the code , I can let you know wich it is.
Just a suggestion... You may want to try the maintanance section also , for this ? and similar problems. You will probably find better, and quicker responses .

If you have an SC400, then you have the exact same problem I had.
I just got my car back from the shop.
CantSeeMe is absolutely right. They pulled the code from the OBD and
it said the transmission solenoid#2 was not working right. The part
is about $200. My mechanic recommended doing solenoid#1 also since
it also goes bad and the labor is the same.
The car shifts much smoother now.

For labor, the transmission pan needs to be dropped. Changing the solenoid didn't seem to be the hard part. My transmission was leaking also and I was quoted around $300 just to reseal it.
Apparently the guy who rebuilt my tranny did a poor job with the seal. My most recent mechanic said you have to know to use the right seleant and do the job right.

This reafirms my suspicions that this is one of the more common causes for the unsolved hesitation problems on our cars.
I would bet that alot of SC and LS owners too . With nagging hesitation problems that they just cant seem to figure out. Would find this code if they checked .
So Bruce , How is the car since the fix?

Yup. Code 63. You know your stuff man.
Since the car's been fix, it runs great. I'm actually surprised how much smoother the car shifts. I guess I was too used to driving it with the f*uped soleniod for a few months.
Solenoid #2 is responsible for selecting gears in the transmission so there you go. I've poked around the forum and no one had a definitive answer as to why the car has shifting problems and has the blinking O/D light. This would be it.
My mechanic told me he's seen this problem many times before too.
