my question is is there coolant running through the evaporator? because i dont get why coolant would come out of that drain tube when only water from the moist air is supposed to come out.

There is more than one core inside the evaporator box.

One is the air condictioning evaporator core. It is filled with freon

One is the heater core. It is filled with antifreeze coolant

The coolant must be coming from the heater core, or the hose connection to and from this heater core.

I just posted about this just earlier. My car just started doing the same thing as soon as it got cold outside. It could be purely coincidental but i get a huge puddle every morning. It just recently happened with no signs of leakage in the hoses or housings. Let me know what you find and i will also keep you updated too. good luck

I have a 97 SC400 (103k miles) and I just notice a leak also. It is only coming from the overflow drain under the car. It appears to leak from the drain when it is warming up and after I drive it and put it back in the garage. I didn't notice it two weeks ago. I had a mechanic check it out and he said that it was normal for it to come out of the drain under the car. But I just want to be sure....any ideas???

i thought it was just me with the mystery coolant leak, also the problem with mine is overnight or long parking time. cant find the leak but the puddle is right under the bellhousing of the tranny on the left and side. i need one of those radiator hand pressure pump that connects the cap.

i just noticed a puddle under my car again today. I walked out and sure as hell, a giant puddle with most of my coolant gone. Looks like its coming from the firewall area but i cant visibly see or feel any leaks around the hoses.

Im curious as well. Filling up at least a a quart of water every morning to top of the radiator. actually a little more than a quart --closer to half a gallon of water. I cant find the source either so more details would probably save us a lot of money and help a great deal of saving time. **ALSO i know i have seen other sc300 owners having coolant leak out of the AC drain tube, but can someone help locate this?
thanks in advance.

p.s. if you have pictures then that would be very helpful.

the only way to find out is to run teh heater on high and watch the a/c drain tube. if you see coolant coming out then thats the problem. another thing to check would be the heater control valve which is right above where the a.c drain tube is. make sure that thing is not elaking. its got a little o-ring that will contract with cold weather and leak in teh morning when you start up. to fix teh coolant leak you have to remove the entire dash assmalby and replace the heater core in my case.
