Well its official! I tore down my SC today! Talk about a leap of faith, this is going to be one involved project. You never fully understand the feeling until you tear apart a perfectly great running motor.

I have all the intake off and have been sorting out emissions, there is a ton of $h1t on my 97. Just trying to figure out what I need and what can go bye bye. I sat the intake and supercharger on it to check fit and big surprise the intake required some minor adjusting. Looks like I will have to sacrifice my Cusco strut brace to make it all fit.

It’s a bit nerve-racking to look at the engine bay and see every thing torn apart but its all a matter of risk and reward.

I’ll try to get some pics up soon.

Scott--I know what you mean in terms of tearing down a perfectly good engine. And the 1UZ is about as perfect as they come!

However, you don't even need to remove valve covers--just all the stuff in the way of getting down to the intake manifold, right?

Keep us posted, and GOOD LUCK!

Actually they can be intercooled, but it's a bit of work for a 1UZ application. One of the Aussie guys used more of the factory Ford T-bird setup (SC outlet on top) to run plumbing for a front mount air-to-air intercooler (as was done on factory T-bird setup). This was on an SC4.

However, the simpler route that Scott (and likely me as well) is taking will be to use a ported blower to reduce outlet temps, and possibly a water/methanol injection system to further keep air temps down at higher boost.

You are correct, but the overwhelming part is what to do with all the emissions.
My Valve covers are coming off just to replace the gaskets and my timing belt, water pump, and tensioner bearings are all being replaced as well. I figure if I’m tearing it down then do it right.

Here is my motor with the intake taken off. I have a lot more to pull but I am trying to mock this up for now.

Here is how much I have to open up the air intake tube for the ported supercharger.

I threw a chunk of 3 1/2" aluminum pipe in the lathe and made a intake tube to hook up the MAFS to the throttle body.

Here is one of some of the mock up.

Throttle cable and transmision kick down cable are to short. Also will require som fabricated brackets.

Rear intake chamber is going to take ports to acomadate needed hook ups.

Throttle body needs a port capped and then redrilled in a different location.

Scott--what are you going to do with the original oval intake portion that will 'stick out' from the new ported opening? Will it be covered sufficiently by gasket material once it's mated up to the blower intake?
