TH400 people, question on driveshaft/differential
I am in the process of installing my TH400 (block adapter, uses GM bellhousing, GM tq. converter) and I am looking for some information on driveshafts.
1. Has anyone else done the same conversion i am doing? I think there are a few using the toyo bell/hybrid converter route... anyone else using the block adapter plate method?
2. Those running big power through a th400, what differential are you running? Supra Auto?
2. Are the supra TT auto driveshaft flange, is it the same as the lexus auto (i.e., can i get a driveshaft made for my lexus diff, and switch out to a supra diff later?)

I almost did that swap...Didn't like the lack of overdrive feature on the TH400...Passed on the deal....
Lextreme.com search has a few threads on the Th400 swap...I amd sure GM bolt patterns do not line up with Toyota....Custom driveshaft will be needed...TT LSD gearing should mate ok with the TH400 tranny as I have read and heard...
Good luck and keep us posted....

I got your PM, I'll just reply here instead:
I have been using the lexus rear, with supra companion flange and output stubs along with welded lexus dif. The only problem here: it is a 4.27 and I am out of mph at the track @ 150mph over 8000rpm on my 28" tires. SO, I am switching now to the supra TT 3.76 rear.
No, the supra turbo rear and lexus rears do not use the same flange (they are very close, but won't bolt up). BUT, you can swap the companion flange between the rears... so yes, if you make the driveshaft for your lexus rear and decide to put a turbo rear in all you would have to do is swap the companion flange on the front to make the ds bolt up.

my trans has custom gearing built to run perfect on 26" tires and 3.69 gears (300zx tt) so i am going to run the auto supra rear.
do the sc3 rear axles bolt up to the supra rear? are they just as strong?

Interesting, ok.
No, the SC rear axles do not bolt up to turbo rear, though again you can swap out the axle-stubs on the rear for either matchup to make it work, and as for strength I am not sure. I think I remember measuring their thickness and the SC being slightly smaller, but it has been a while and I could be mistaken.

i'll be on the th400 wagon if my new car doesnt work out....So my set up of 6spd rear, 6spd axels, custom ds, and sp 400 is quite adequete of a good set up.(my first built auto car, if i do it, so im a tad in the dark)
Any one heard any news on the 4l80e swap? Nice for the overdrive but honestly know little about it.

so what is the easiest swap as far as differentials go? should i buy a whole supra axles and diffrential assembly? i guess i am asking if the supra axles mate right up to the hub and fit with the rest of the rear subframe?

You know the newer Camaro and Corvette automatic trannies are pretty stout...Maybe a better daily driver choice then the more drag freindly TH400"s no?
