Car starts, then dies

Yes, but both cars have the exact same recurring problem with no solution nailed down.

This is a very bad problem which causes you to park your car in the garage and just leave
it because you don't trust it to not suddenly stop and leave you in the middle of the road as
has happened to me twice. It is now sitting in my garage and the only thing I can do is polish
it over and over. Occasionally I sit in it and listen to the stereo as I imagine driving it down the
road.

Surely someone has fixed this this apparently common problem and knows the answer.
Otherwise we are left with a bunch of wild speculations. MAF, torque converter, fuel pump,
fuel filter, fuel ECU, ECT sensor, fuses? Has anyone done something that actually fixes this
problem or have they just left the car in the garage? This sounds more like a German car problem
than a Lexus problem.
