Default Question about an issue i had

My car died today and i pulled over. When i popped the hood i noticed that my serpentine belt was loose to the point where i can take it off with my hand. I started it back up and it made a loud squeaking sound. Is the tensioner bad? Thats what i would think but is there anything else i should check?

Did you check your crank pulley, sometimes that Ring around the crank pulley seperates it holds ur belt at the bottom, maybee it went loose, fell on the road and the belt didnt go loose.

Or maybee your belt is really old and simply stretched out..

When you put it back on how did the tensioner feel? Did it have any resistance? Or was it sloppy?

Check your belt against a new belt to see if it has stretched out too far. Although I have never seen a belt stretch to the point of slipping off, they usually just break. Also check what Shlounek suggested. That belt wraps around several pullies so it could be any one of them. The squeeling could be the bearings in one of the accessories or tensioner.

I have a feeling that those "Lexus" tensioners are pretty expensive. Hopefully you can get one for a "Toyota" for cheaper.
