Default Power steering anomaly ( yep, researched)

I've read numerous threads and found nothing similar to what my pump is doing.
133K and pump whines in agony when temperature is below fifty degrees. Above fifty all is well. Ok so bad pump right ? excellent steering assist downright noisy and embarrassing. Fluid has bubbles, did lock to lock bleed, noise gone one week. Next morning after fifteen minute commute fluid is dripping and puddling beneath my car. Blown hose ?, exploded seal?, no, fluid is coming out of the reservoir cap and no other place. Fluid level was right above cold mark after bleeding. Please help.
my first step is gonna be a flush, next a seal kit though i don't think it needs it,
then perhaps a ACV, lastly pump replacement, then rack.
what are some thoughts on this one. I'm stumped.

thanks

Sounds like you're headed in the right direction. Mine had the same problem whining and leaking, but found the leak at the rack and had it changed. $450 later, it runs like a champ again...

Similar thing happened on my son's SC.

Repair kit for pump, is little below $50. I was in a hurry and decided to replace the pump. Remanufactures were running 250+. OEM form dealer around 500. Since I put it in myself, I opted for OEM. Ran across a few posts where they were un-happy about the remanufactured pump.

When the pump came out, I could see evidence of slow leak ... i guess it was sucking in more air.

The biggest problem is locating the failing part. Pump or rack. I lucked out. Luckily the alternator was not leaked on.

If you want to DIY check the maintainance forum. I have the writup ... sorry no pics.

better make sure that the pump isnt leaking, if it is you might have to buy a new alternator if the ps fluid leaks in there. but id check the hoses to. thats were my leak started.

My car is leaking powersteering fluid real bad. It corroded the steering rack bushings which I already ordered. Now, where to order the gaskets for the power steering? I have yet to determine where the leak is coming from. The hoses are very dirty due to the leak.

PS rebuild kit is available from dealership.

wd40 soaked rag can really clean out the grime. Just watch out .. the covered up scab may spring leak.

Default re

so it's sucking in air causing overlow at the reservoir ? my guess would be a seal kit first. thanks for all the help. don't understand why ambient temp affects this though ?

Dont wait too long, even a small leak can cause probs.
My PS pump was leaking a small amt because it was overfilled. Wich disolved my rack bushings. As well as part of my driver side engine mount.
