For the SC300 inline 6, it'll take around 5 hours if you have the right special tools. If you don't have the right tools, then 10 hours seem to be right....LOL. Anyway, it's not that hard but you should have already worked on cars and understood about the structures of the engine. You'll involve with the suspension (crossmembers...etc), exhaust, timing belt, bolt torque sequences, and the specific torques (ft/lb) for each bolts and nuts....etc.

yeah I have a 1997 cobra that I race in nasa's professional road race american iron series. I'm pretty familiar with motor work but being as this is lexus and not ford I know it wont be so straight forward. Or will it?
Are the head bolts TTY?
Is retiming the cams a simple job (markings, etc.)?
What other gaskets will I need to replace during reassembly?
Why would I have to drop the K-member, does the motor need to be out of the car?
Does anybody have access to ALLDATA?

i have alldata il take a look and maybe do a write up. but it will be straight from alldata not from experence iv been a technicion for awile but iv only owned a lexus for a month. what im saying is sometimes alldata skips some steps and some times they make u do some usless steps , but it will get the job done.....

What do you mean by TTY? I don't understand your abbreviation.
Yes, it is. And you should have the manual showing how to do it.
You'd need the gaskets for the valve cover, the intake manifold, the exhaust manifold, all the front seals, and maybe the water pump, the rotor cap...etc. Do everything at once and have a peace of mind, rather than doing only 1 thing and waste more time in the future to do other things that are related.
You'll need to remove the crossmember to have access to the exhaust manifold. And once the exhaust manifold is removed, then you can lift up the head.
Ask a second person to help you speed up the process.
