Default Battery Problem

i tried to go to school today and my car cranked about 10 times and then the lights cut out and it just made a long clicking noise

i'm pretty sure its a dead battery unless there are any other suggestions for this kind of a problem. should i go with a new OEM battery or is there another battery out there for our cars that works a lot better, i'm lookin for something that is the most efficient and will last the longest

thankyou

You should get to a parts store like AutoZone or Oreilly's and have them test your alternator output and battery-- You may have a dead rectifier in your alternator. A handheld tester will identify either problem and is quick easy and painless.

If it's your alternator, I have a writeup on how to rebuild your oem one that you should read before spending any money.

A bad rectifier will soon kill even the best battery -- And can still charge partially, but cause damage to the battery by producing very uneven DC current ...

All that to say, go get it tested, it's almost impossible to determine without getting it tested properly.

Like changing your oil with dirty oil, does more damage than good....

You should be able to jump the car off and drive it to a parts house-- If not, the likelihood that it's your alt is even greater--

If you cant jump it, just take the battery and get it tested where you bought it--

The result will tell you what's wrong-- Battery good? Alt. bad--

I would take it to Auto Zone or Advance as I've had good luck with their chargers being accurate-- Wal Mart's S H I T is rigged to make them money-- imagine that--

FYI-- I had a Wal-Mart battery go bad, and their tester/charger said it was good, but it would barely crank the car after it was supposedly charged, and after further inspection I found that one of the cells was way low on electrolyte--

Result: Don't buy a Wal-Mart battery or use them to test the battery--
