Default Nightmare mechanic.. what to do?

My sc400 recently needed a new starter so i sent it to one of my dads small parts mechanic. The mechanic put the new starter on but the car skipped timing when it turned over for the first time, he didnt know why the car wouldnt drive over 30mph, he finally figured it out. When i got my car back almost a month later the catalytic converters "comb" was melted and rubbing the inside of the exauset making a scary scratchy sould everytime the gas was depressed. my sc400 doesnt run like it did. its sluggish and the check engine light is on. im going to do my own tune up and replace plugs wires change tranny fluid etc..... what else should i check on with a descently high mileage sc400..... it doesnt run at all like it did when i 1st bought it a couple of years ago... thanx!! p.s. how many quarts does the sc400 tranny hold? The dealership said 2.... sounds kinda low!!!

ok, getting your panties in a bunch is not going to help you here. i understand you need answers NOWWW, but calm down. you need to make sure in the future to post in the right forum in case you didnt before.
ok now to help you.
sounds like you need to take the car back to the mechanic you dealt with in the beginning. if he is incapable of fixing the problem you should possibly take the car to the dealer to make it right. im not sure how the sc400 motor works but how does fixing the starter affect timing? anyhow, take the car back it shouldnt be this complicated if he was a reputable mechanic.

have fun !!

the starter should have absolutely nothing to do with the timing...

the starter sits in the "v" in the back of the motor, timing stuff is on the front...

ok, so, one thing we need to know - what year is your car??? and who replaced the timing belt...

OMG, way to little info. 1ST why was the starter replaced & who
diagnosed it? The cat being clogged has nothing to do w/ the
starter being replaced. How did the car run directly before the
starter was replaced? (not 2 years ago)
Maybe this this is what happened:
The car jumped time making it hard to start. Being out of time
it was dumping xtra fuel into the exhaust & clogged the cat.
So maybe it didn't need a starter.

The starter had a dead spot... the car jumped timing right after he had put the new starter on. The car ran perfectly right before the starter hit a dead spot.

As others already said. The starter will not have any effect on timing.
