Well, the stock crank pulley seperates from time to time from its hub I've had it happen TWICE with the OEM pulley, then one from a SupraTT.

Aftermarket dampted pullies do not seperate This is a plus when there is an enormous amount of torque on the pulley from a large turbocharger

Mitsuguy i do understand, And the odds of spining a bearing do to the pulley are slim. How about this as soon as i get crank walk or spin a bearing ill let you know, dont get me wrong im not saying that a UD pulley is better, im just saying that the odds of it cousing a engine failure are small.

and I'm not saying you WILL get crankwalk or engine failure... but is the chance worth the 5 hp you might get?

Agreed. To me its clear, the chance of damaging your engine out weights the minute hp you gain. There is a reason good why yota designed the crank pulley with a dampener and why the NHRA requires you to have a dampened pulley to legally compete.

Yup. I remember white papers from Toyota engineers about the 2jz and how it must have a damped crank pulley. The harmonics can do all sorts of damage; lots of documentation. Several years ago before most of you were here and we had a whole different generation of SC freaks; there was plenty of data running around about it. Because there was NO aftermarket damped option out there.

I agree its a chance, and thats was my argument, Its probobly not going to happen but it might. The way the argument was presented was that you will blow your engine if u install it, and the reality you wont, sure there is a slight chance that it will lead to problems down the road, but that the risk you take.

Its not as slight as you imagine it. Its a forgone conclusion that it will eventually cause premature engine death of some sort. Its like smoking leading to cancer. It took them so long to link it directly.

Does anybody know of an aftermarket damped crank pulley made to fit the 1UZ?
