Stock SC4 mufflers are straight through to begin with.
Have fun trying though!

not actually-- they're baffled like most turbo-style mufflers are-- look closely and you'll see the spot welds where the baffles are -- I thought about cutting the bottom of them off and gutting the baffles-- then I'd just weld the panel back in with some ss wire for corrosion resistance...

So we're instantly ricers if we want to use stock mufflers and modify them for a more open sound??

Ohhh, it's better to spend $450 on tanabe stainless cans -- gotcha-- pretty much the same thing sold on ebay for $50 each--

Don't be discouraged by some of the newer members here who seem to be jumping down your throat on this idea. the mufflers and resonators won't do much in terms of performance. Removing or switching to high flow cats will do more for that. I personally had the mufflers and resonators disconnected and fired her up to see how it sounded. Pretty mean sounding idle but pretty raucousy (sp?) when revving. I tried different combos and ended up with resonators plus Borla mufflers. They are fairly straight throughs with baffles and packing. I don't have a sound clip, but try out different configs. For starters, take off the stock mufflers and see how the car sound to you. Most aftermarket mufflers will basically sound like that, maybe a bit deeper and/or louder.

eliminating the stock resonators ( 3 of them on a non Cali car) will make an improvement in sound and performance-- Unless your stock cats are stopped up which is very possible, the stockers flow withing 5-10% of a high flow cat-- and better than a cheap catco-- planetsoarer.com has a full rundown on every aspect of the UZZ30/1 exh system including test flow data from different cats-- it's a good read for anyone looking into exh mods--

I get lots of compliments on how my stock mufflers sound after eliminating all the resonators and custom fabbing a center Y section--

I'll eventually do some magnaflows with the mandrel tail sections I have waiting, but that's after more money comes--

It's all up to you how much you want to spend -- my setup cost about $150 total-- and after adding the tail sections and magnaflow's it should be around $350 total--

Well, I have a set of those cherry bomb mufflers from pep-boys on mine and from looking at the car you could not tell there was any exhaust work done. They were 20 bucks apiece i think. I also eliminated the 2 resonators. Haven't got around to the cats yet but once I go turbo then I will screw with that stuff. It sounds pretty good. Once I got the intake on it, it got alittle deeper. All in all for less then 100 bucks in the exhaust it was well worth it.

Look even closer, like inside.
SC4 is straight thru.

I'll have to do that-- the exhaust guy just pointed to the spot welds and told me that-- I naturally believed him-- made sense to-- he's an exhaust guy--

I'll try to stick a coathanger all the way thru--
