Default Click, click, vrrooom (SC300)

Maybe somebody else has also had this issue..

Recently, when I turn my car over to start it just goes 'CLICK' then, I try it again and, 'CLICK' try 3 or 4 more times then finally it will start.

Sometimes when I get in it starts up right away, sometimes I have to try turning over 20 times. Has anybody else has this issue?
Also, occasionally my left blinker will blink twice as fast as my right blinker!

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

Be thankful you have an SC300 and not an SC400

Replace or clean the contacts in the starter solenoid and you won't have to replace the whole starter.

If one of you blinker bulbs go bad or have a bad connection, the side with the bad bulb will blink fast. Next time it does it, bang on the front lens and see if it changes, if not try the rear.

That should have nothing to do with the alternator. The clicking means your selinoid is working. I would agree with checking your + and ground on the starter, as well as on the battery.

Could anybody describe where the starter is? I bought a starter repair kit from ebay but I'm having trouble finding the actual starter!

Thanks!

The solenoid is only half working. Don't know the correct terminology, but in the solenoid there is a round, spring loaded contact that is pulled down when power is applied. It's pulled down to two L-shaped contacts to transfer power between them which in turn sends power to the actual starter. The clicking noise is the spring loaded contact being pulled down to the two L-shaped contacts. The car won't start because the contacts are likely quite corroded and there is too much resistence to supply enough power to start the car.

Replace or clean the two L-shaped contacts, clean the round contact (plunger I call it) and it will be as good as new.

Not trying to sound smart or anything, but I've worked for Toyota for 6 years as a tech and have only ever replaced 1 starter. It was sticking on, kept turning after the engine started.

SC400 = under the intake manifold.
SC300 = don't know, never touched one, but I'd guess it's on the transmission bellhousing somewhere, and should be pretty easy to get to from underneath the car.
