the a/c compressor stops spinning...?

Check your R134a pressures. If you don't have enough in the system it won't come on. Also, if you have close to your correct pressure. Check the power going to the clutch. If theres power going to it and it still doesn't work. Thats proly bad. Its a lot cheaper to replace that than the whole compressor But I bet your low on R134a. If so throw some dye in it and see where it leaks out at. Hope that helps a lil, if you have anymore questions just ask =p

I am alll about DIY...
but with A/C... it's simply too expensive if you don't know what you are doing...
to do it right, you will need a proper set of a/c gauges...
we call those cans of 134 that you buy "black death" - there is no way to get moisture out of the system... you need a suction pump to get any moisture and contaminants out of the line...
so, buy a set of a/c gauges, a vacuum pump, and a real can tap, and then I'll agree he should learn to do it himself...

thanks people..i'm pretty sure replacing the a/c compressor isn't that hard(i am my own mechanic) but when i comes to all them a/c charge, etc...it just confuses me b/c i guess i don't know how it works, might just take it to a a/c specialist next week to see what the problem might be...

correct, it's a small pain in the butt, but nothing horrible... it's all the a/c specific stuff that you need special tools for to do right...
I could tell you step by step, but you definitely don't have the correct tools to do it right...

ok here's an update..luckily i got a friend that works at a Good Year tire shop and he was willing to check my a/c system out for free (saved me about $150) anyways REXN30 was right, it's not the compressor that is bad, i just ran out of freon... but the only thing that was bad is that there was a weird hissing noise and he said i might need a new condensenor(he said it sounds like it's clogged up), but another guy that works there said it might be b/c i don't have my fan shroud on that's why the air is not circurlating correctly, i was like WTF..can a fan shroud really do that? after i left and went home driving on the interstate, i turned on the a/c all the way until i got home and didn't hear any noise, maybe drving the car help??

as far as the shroud being missing - pretty far fetched, but you'd be amazed at what a missing fan shroud can cause (over heating, improperly working a/c, etc)
