air to water works very well, and is extremely efficient.. But i would highly recommend just going with a water or meth/alch injection kit with or without a fmic. As it costs the same or cheaper for some DIY kits.. Especially with the way your going to regulate your boost and a small pulley...
just my 02.

Default Wow

To have both ScottURnot and cOwboy post on my thread, I'm not worthy!

ScottURnot, although I've decided to go a completely different route, your supercharger project has been a major inspiration to me. I may have never decided to boost my 400 if I hadn’t seen your car.

I had debated between centrifugal and roots for a while, but decided on centrifugal when the Lextreme bracket became available. It fits my goals of building a cheap (relatively), effective, supercharged SC400 that will not require tons of downtime.

cOwboy, all debates on pricing aside, I highly respect you for working to bring REAL performance products to the table for the SC400 and 1UZ in general.

Thanks,

KC

Still not sure I'm impressed by the torque converter.
A proper shift kit may be worth looking into, I have one that is done here in OZ and the gear changes are quick.

Good to see more V8's getting boosted.

I got to get a start on mine soon, just been too busy.

Keep up the good work.

Well, now that I've been driving on it for a few days, I am starting to like it more. With the LSD, the car really grabs around the corners.

The TQ is not quite as dramatic of a change as I thought it would be, but I can definately tell the difference.

Have been playing with the trans throttle cable to adjust the shifting some, not happy with it yet, but I'm sure I'll find the sweet spot.

Default mini update

Hey guys,

As mentioned, the hydo fan needs to be deleted in order to use the fish bracket.

I have decided to go mechanical for cost and reliability.

I have the all the parts on the way for the conversion. The fan bracket and pulley (which are needed regardless of whether converting to mechanical or electric) are on the way from Lextreme. Also purchased a bolt kit from Lextreme, bolts to bolt the bracket to the engine. I purchased the fan and clutch on eBay for $60 shipped.

The (used) V-9 I purchased uses air assist. A small amount of boost is bled into the oil feed which is supposed to mist the oil as it sprays onto the gears. A few of the fittings for this setup were missing / not included with the supercharger. I sourced everything needed from Home Depot. All the fittings are NPT fittings.

I also figured out that the bolt size needed to attatch the V-9 to the bracket are 5/16 X 8. Not sure of the length yet, but bolts can be had up to 4 inches from Home Depot. This should be plenty long. Still need to source spacers.

I think that's it for now.

I had already been corrected on this, but thanks.

Since a few are so hung up on that mis statement, I edit my first post.

Thanks,

So the fish does work pretty well on the SC400 right? I remember reading on lextreme, they said it was a bit different, or is there two different fishes brackets?

Also I know I'm a new member and all, but everything looks like it's turning out great! What about methanol spray? Or water injection?

There's always an air to air intercooler +c02/NOx sprayer too

Lex told me that all I need to do is get the LS400 "Fan Bracket" and the Pulley for it and replace my hydro fan goodies. Other than that, the bracket will bolt up just fine

KC,

Good to see your progress. As you i know just picked up a 95 SC400 and ready to drop the 4.7 liter into it. Snails will come in little later. KC and few other CL guys. Keep up the good work.

The installation of The Fish is pretty easy. Here are the things you need to relocate:
• Relocate the battery to the trunk
• Rotate the fuse box for the SC400 only
• Replace hydraulic fan pump for the SC400 only and replace with a LS400 fan bracket along
with the bracket pulley.
• Relocate driver side igniter
• Possible re-route some small wires and vacuum lines

Anyway, the parts are on the way and here is a picture of The Fish:

Hey Lex, I noticed you said to replace the fans hydraulic pump.

Is there some type of Idler assembly that can replace that unit? I am installing a PWR aluminum 4 row radiator with dual electric fans and want to eliminate or bypass the pump. I considered putting fluid in it and looping the hose but eliminating it would be better. Any thoughts?

Scott

Your BEST way to do this is to find a LS400 "Fan Bracket" and the LS400 "Fan Bracket Idler Pulley". This replaces the hydrolic fan pump on the SC400 motor.
