Guys,

Ya, I kinda jumped the gun on my posting. I still have not had a moment (wife and 2 kids) to drive the car. I know that most vehicles idle lean, I just didn't know it was THAT lean. I guess it just really freaked me out when it went lean over the AEMs ability to measure.

So on the install. Installed the wideband in place of the OEM sensor. I took an old, failed O2 sensor and cut the wiring off of it. I sodered a 10ohm resitor to the two wires for the OEM sensor heater, installed the 0-1volt output from the AEM to the ECU signal wire and attatched the O2 sensor ground to, you guessed it, ground. So far, no check engine light from just idling.

That 10ohm resistor does kind of scare me though, it gets hot! I was carefull to make sure it isn't touching anything.

I will have some pics later, just haven't had a chance to take them and upload.

Guys,

My wideband is working fine. I know that most cars idle lean, I just didn't know they idle THAT lean.

Anyhow, took the car for a spirited drive today and here are some AFR numbers.

Idle 17-18 to 1.
Cruising 17-18 to 1.
Deceleration varies quite a bit from quite rich to quite lean. ? I suppose this is normal.
Light acceleration 14-15.5 to 1
Light to moderate acceleration 13.5ish to 1
Moderate acceleration 12.5 - 13.5ish to 1
Heavy acceleration 12 to 13sih to 1
WOT 10 - 12ish to 1

Seems to me that there is a bit of room for some boost.

Some pics of the installed gauges. Oh ya, BTW, I also put in an autometer electronic boost gauge.

Night shot, they don't glare as bad as it looks in the pics.

Pic of the sending unit for the boost gauge.

Another.

I used the plug end from an old, failed O2 sensor for wiring.

The two black wires are for the OEM heater. I wired in a 10ohm resistor I bought from radioshack to prevent a CEL.

The blue wire is the signal wire from the OEM sensor to the ECM, this is where I wired the 0-1 output from the AEM.

The white wire is the sensor ground, I put this wire to ground.

So far so good, no CEL and is running good.

One step closer! Still hoping to be boosted before Thanksgiving!

That looks awesome. No CEL is great stuff. The car is really taking the shape of an FI car now.

Ok, AEM issues, if anyone can help.

CEL on, code 26. Rich code.

The ECM is not getting the correct signal form the AEM gauge for some reason. Using a techstream (Toyota scan tool) my bank1 sensor reading is pegged at .9 volts (rich). The reason I am running so lean while idling and cruising is because the ECM thinks the car is running rich and it is removing fuel to compensate.

For now, I unplugged the signal wire from the AEM to the ECU and my AFRs are much much better. I assume that the ECM is using the bank2 reading from the OEM sensor that is still installed there to guess how much fuel it should be putting into bank1.

Don't know if the problem is in the gauge or my wiring, but I am going to do some testing tommorow. I am about 100% sure I am using the correct wire from the AEM and about 90% sure that I have the wire connected to the correct wire for ECM O2 sensor input. ?????????

Default Parts updates

Got my pulley in the mail today. Thanks Lex!

Need to pickup my fan clutch, but it should be waiting for me at Advanved Auto.

Should see the fan Lex sent me soon.

Need to source an oil feed line, there's a local speed shop close to my work, I will stop by tommorow.

Have oil drain hose and a couple of fittings waiting for me, need to go pickup.

I took the plunge and purchsed a MAF Translator Pro. Also, bought the speed density conversion harness which includes an IAT sensor and a GM 3bar MAP sensor.

Still need plugs, anyone know the part number for 2 step colder Iridium plugs?!?

I think that's about all for parts, looking pretty good for a weekend install.

I am going to pickup the fan clutch and the drain hose tomorrow.

Still waiting on MAFTPro and fan.

After work tomorrow, I have to go take some ASE tests. After the tests I am going to start tear down of the motor for fan conversion. Also, I am going to remove the bumper and start fiddling with the intercooler. Hopefully I'll have the IC and piping figured out by Friday so I can go get anything that needs welding, welded.

I thought the same thing with mine, a couple of unforseen problems put us back a few days.

I hope you can do it, because it looks like you have everything ready.
Good luck with it.

Please share, what unforseen problems? Couldn't hurt for me to know in case I'm missing something.

the car...going fast...perhaps...

ps. KC, you are at 100 posts. You better get your *** in gear and get FI before you end up at 125 posts without boost. Slacker...

pps. I am glued to this thread until I see that boost gauge making 5psi.
