Default Car jumps when changing between park....

1996 SC400 with 180k miles

I never paid much mind to this problem but as i'm trying to get everything sorted before winter hits I figured i would try to get this problem at least diagnosed to see if its serious and get it fixed. I searched around and didnt find anything. (wrong terms maybe)

After my car is warmed up and I shift from Park to drive or reverse the car jumps. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes you really feel it sometimes you don't. (I make sure the brake is fully depressed)

I believe theres also a small ticking or clicking noise when you change.

And of course all the noises are coming from the rear of the car.

My roommate's car and my other friend's car both do that, but they're f-bodies with manual valve body TH400's so I don't know if that just comes with the territory. Also does it from reverse to drive.

odd... i only get that when the car is started cold. figured it was always cuz the transmission fluid wasn't warmed up yet. after i have run through the gears, the hard shift goes away. does your's occur even after you have driven through the gears?

Me thinks its common. Sometimes I get this when I am reversing and shift before I stop so it kinda JERKS the car forward. Other times I hold the brake and shift it and the damn thing JERKS into gear. Who knows, natural SC phenomena. 177K here though, maybe worn trannymounts? Though it drives normal for the most part, almost can't feel the shifts.

I think most auto cars jump going into gear.

It jumps a lot if the car is cold. Once its warmed up its still there but not too bad.

It doesn't bother me, but I wanted to find out if its normal or not.

My trans has ~70k miles, and it jerks nicely when going from park to anything other than park.

I would consider it normal.

Mine does it occasionally too....especially from a cold start. Not sure if there's something wrong cause sometimes it jerks hard.

climate controls going black are a normal thing also, and you should still be concerned.
