changing throttle position sensor
there is a good chance i will be changing the tps on my 92 sc300
is there anything i need to know before doing this
i notice that it is adjustable when i put the new one on how do i know where to adjust it to
im not getting any lights ie.codes when this happens.
i went to advanced today and they have one for like 110 so that aint bad
i just bought a voltmeter the next time it happens im going to see if the tps is putting out a signal if not then i know its bad. when its working properly it puts out .60v at closed throttle and 3.80v at wide open throttle.
are there any precautions i need to take when swaping it out if i decide to. need to know if any adjustments need to be made. and if so how

It's nearly idiot proof. two screws. Nothing more to it. I suggest marking the center so you know where the old one was, but the new one might have a different resistance than the old one and need to be tweaked a little. You'll know when you get it right. The shift points will be smooth and right on time. You only have a few mm either way to go with it so it is not like you're twisting it around like a clock.

O. L. T.,
It's FAR from idiot proof. The only thing worse than not responding to someone is giving them bad information.
Take a look at this thread I just posted for the sc400, Toyota TPS's seem to be the same. You can probably use the same connector I did, just make sure to get the correct specifications for your engine.

Here are some other V6 engines, hope you find something useful:

Nice way to get accepted while being new to a forum!
While your detailed explaination on adjusting the TPS is correct (as per AllData), it is quite uneccessary. Simply rotating the TPS until the desired idle speed is reached is all you need to do.

I appologize for being blut before, sorry OLT.
What you guys have to realize is that people are here looking for help. Yes I'm sure you could adjust the TPS by hand and it will work, but 1. you will get bad gas mileage and 2. are you 100% certain the part is broken to begin with?
How many times have we all changed something only to find that the original problem was still there? Look at this forum, it's the reason half of us are here to begin with.
What I was trying to convey with my "quite unnecessary" steps, was to give the reader the option to get a little dirty and make sure they're looking in the right place. Best case scenario, they just fixed their car for free. Worst case scenario, they will be confortable spending that $110 because they know for sure the the problem is going to be solved.
