i have a sc300, which is fine, and an ES300 which is giving me a hell of a time. i opened up the engine and tested compression: on the front bank i got 190 across the board then i got 160 170 190 on the rear bank. i put 30-40 mils of oil in the lowest one and it jumped to 210 which implies worn rings or cylinders. no my question is if there is any sure signs of worn rings before i toss the engine? the reason i'm asking here is because we SC owners tend to be more experienced and active than the ones on the ES forum.
i thought leak down gives you headgasket/valve readings, I didn't know it gave out ring readings too. If you put oil in the cylinder, and the compression went up, it goes without a doubt it's rings
Yea is your engine full of sludge? Open the valve cover and take a pic. I can pretty much tell by looking at it. The v6 had oiling problems and when the sludge builds up it is usually to late. I had one that puked the motor right under 200k and it was taken care of.
