Sc400 Overheating
About a month ago, my vehicle over heated, the radiator busted, I changed the water heater. Problem solved, now I noticed my Heating/Cooling Guage go up to the hot level after driving about 10mins with cold vehicle in winter. I was thinking it was the thermostat.. Any suggestions, if you think it could be the thermostat, anyone know where the thermostat is located on the sc400 and how do you change it.. Any assistance will be appreciated...

The thermostat is in the front of the engine it is attached to large hose that comes from the top part of the radiator. There are only to bolts to undo. inside is a washer and the thermostat. PLease use a Toyota/ lexus thermostat. Our cars are sensative to some things. There are several hoses that come from the coolant holder to the left of the radiatior. It is good to clean those out or change them. Most people that do the flushing leave those on and all the debris get caught in those smaller hoses. If you need a illustration I will try to find you a pic to show you. Just PM me.

I know this has been thrown up several times. after all the overheating problems I had. I stop using the Toyota coolant and used the Prestone that is made for all cars. I have had no problems ... just a thought

That's what mine is doing, it never actually overheated, but the guage would rise very high in temperature.. I just changed out the thermostat, I did not lose any fluids, so I did not have to add any.. If it continue to rise in temperature, I will try exchanging the fluid, I'm currently using the red fluid from Toyota... I will keep you guys posted..

OK, I Changed out the theromstat and gasket, tighten up the bolts. Now it's smoking somewhere around the thermostat housing. I've tighten the housing as tight as possible. I started the engine and in about 2mins, it started smoking somewhere near the housing. It wasn't smoking initially, I'm wondering is there a certain torc it should be tightened too. I checked the hoses and there isn't any leaks.. Any suggestions.....
