So what's the verdict?

My SC3 just passed 100k miles w/ only boring regular oil. Is it safe to now switch to synthetic next LOF service?

Or should I add/mix Mobil 1 into the sauce over next, say, 12k miles (or 4 LOF changes)?

As soon as I bought mine with 150,000 miles, I changed the oil from dino juice to full Castrol Syntec. I have used Syntec in every vehicle I have owned since I first saw it on the shelf. Older cars with cork gaskets should stick with organic or a blend.

i swiched to mobil 1 0-40 synthetic with 170 000 on my sc300 with no problems, it is completely safe to swich unless you have a major oil leak or burn a lot of oil, you would just be wasting your money at 6 dollars a quart topping it off, if your motor does not have any of these symptoms i would say go for it cause i did and my motor runs great, and i floor the s*** out of it, and it has burned about half a quart in the last 4500 miles, and dont listen to the people that say high mileage motors dont like synthetic because not unless you car burns and leaks a lot of oil, synthetic will do nothing but help and prolong engine life and thats a proven fact

The real issue with full synthetic in higher mileage engines is the fact that they have a higher detergent level that is designed to break down or stop the build up of contaminents. If the only thing stopping your old gaskets and seals from leaking is the build up of these carbon byproducts, then guess what happens when they break down... they leak. Full synthetic is the way to go, but on an older/higher mileage engine you may run into this issue when switching over. Its fine if you dont mind dealing with or fixing these leaks, but most owners are not going to be so inclined. Just my two cents, feel free to disagree but ive seen in first hand.
