At some level I think you're right but I dont think the water pump ever changed on the SC or the Supra. This is what he messaged me with:

"I checked the 2JZ SC300, from 8/91-7/00 it takes the same water pump, part# 16100-49837-83. The 2JZ Supra is the same part #, from 5/93-8/98."

Infact I think we need to redirect this thread to finding out who actually has HAD to have an 11 bolt water pump installed on their car to find why it exists.

Interesting, thanks for the find Kruso. This is a very informative thread. Anyone going out of their way to call for part comparisons is good in my book. You guys rock

Bump from the dead....93 sc300 5spd. Just took mine off and count 11 bolts for the pump and +1 for an alternator bracket for a total of 12. So I am going to order an 11 bolt. Correct?

This is how you tell the difference. If you have the bolt between 7 and 8 o'clock (just to the right of the alternator bolt), you have an 11 bolt:

if you don't have this bolt, you have a 10 bolt:

some guy in Japan should be kicked in his *** for coming up with this variation, even though it's 20 years coming.

currently going through this myself on my 92 sc300 for 4 days. every place i go they keep giving me 10 bolt water pumps with the metal coolant spout pointing down. i brought my old pump to toyota and they were lost. then brought it to lexus and they were lost too. SC is down until i can find the right pump. gonna give a local performance shop a shot in the morning at this since they tear down and tune these JZ engines all the time. takes up so much time longest t belt/ water pump job ive done and of couse its my own car haha just my luck
